The utterly iconic wine of supremely talented winemaker Elena Fucci. From Basilicata in Southern Italy, cultivated on the slopes of an ancient volcano.

Elena Fucci’s grandfather, Generoso, managed to purchase some vineyard plots in the 60’s, the furthest up the ancient extinct volcano that is Monte Vulture in Basilicata. The vines were used to grow grapes to sell, and a small amount for family consumption. In 2000 they decided to sell off the plots. Elena, still a teenager and an only child, was initially indifferent: “I said “Yes, sell, sell, sell. I will got to university and I won’t come back”. But when the buyer appeared, Fucci changed her mind. “It hit me. I was born here. I understood that I was tied to this place”.
She then convinced her parents she would study Oenology and take over the vineyard. With only 15 acres she makes “One wine, one grape - and doing it well. That's our rule”. Aglianico makes very big bold wines from very late harvesting grapes and is often referred to as 'The Nebbiolo of the South' (Nebbiolo of Barolo/Barbaresco fame) as it shares the same capacity for greatness and longevity. Aglianico del Vulture, must be made 100% from Aglianico from the steep, volcanic slopes of Monte Vulture, where ancient lava flows are layered with volcanic ash.

'Deep crimson ruby. Still very youthful and enticing nose. Wild strawberry, raspberry, with hints of black pepper and cooked red beetroot with a pinch of nutmeg from the oak – a super-slick job done.
