AROMA 1: PINE

Aroma 1 is PINE.

Fresh, green, woody, balsamic, resinous.

Derived from the needles of pine trees, pine essential oil is a fresh, clean scent though to have invigorating and uplifting properties in aromatherapy. To many, it's one of  the many nostalgic smells of Christmas as the Christmas tree scents the indoor air. The smell is down to a group of organic aroma compounds known as 'Terpenes' a major component of all essential oils. Conifer resin is rich in these terpenes, and helps protect the trees bark from herbivores like bark beetles and also some types of fungi. There are over 30,000 terpenes in the plant kingdom, each bestowing a particular scent.

Terpenes in wine come from the skins of the grapes and can be intensified through a long maceration of the crushed grapes.  The Pinene Terpene can contribute herbal notes of Rosemary and Juniper in a wine.
