Saint Aubin, 1er Cru En Remilly Blanc 2013, Domaine Guy Amiot et Fils

    DRINKING WINDOW: Enjoy now

SERVE: 12-14 degrees celcius (NB this is quite bit higher than fridge temperature!)

STYLE: Dry, medium bodied white wine with a rich, complex flavour from oak aging and bottle aging.

With 7 years bottle age this wine is perfect for drinking now, displaying an evolution of buttery, nutty complexity. High acidity (a hall-mark of Burgundy whites) brings freshness to the richness of oak-aged Chardonnay.

St Aubin’s vineyards border both Chassagne- and Puligny-Montrachet. En Remilly would be one of the most acclaimed sites hence its Premier Cru status. Partly fermented in French oak barrels (1/3) and stainless steel tank. After 12 months of ageing, the wine is pumped back to one tank for bottling preparation. Indian summer conditions in 2013 ensured ripeness to balance the fresh character. Apricot blossom and lime-flower scents intermingle with mineral notes. The palate is very well balanced with a taut line of acidity and very good weight.

SERVE: 12-14 degrees celcius (NB this is quite bit higher than fridge temperature!

STYLE: Dry, full-bodied white wine, rich and buttery.

Excellent value for a Premier Cru Chassagne-Montrachet owing to its slightly elevated position amongst the appellation, where cooler nights means wines retain great freshness, to balance the ripeness accumulated from its excellent South Eastern exposure.

Les Champs Gain is a Premier Cru climat in the center of the famous Chassagne-Montrachet commune at the southern end of the Cote d'Or. It is planted to both Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, making both red and white wines, but it is the elegant, rounded white wines like this with nutty, citrussy characters that attract the most attention from critics and wine lovers alike.

About Domaine Guy Amiot Et Fils

Domaine Guy Amiot in Chassagne-Montrachet possesses an enviable line up of Burgundy crus. Founder Arsène Amiot started acquiring parcels during the 1920’s in Chassagne including several premier crus including Vergers, Clos Saint Jean, Caillerets, and Dent de Chien (which would later become the world-famous le Montrachet. Under his direction, Domaine Amiot became one of the first to begin estate-bottling their production.

Arsène’s son Pierre took over in the 30s, adding more parcels such as Maltroie, Champgains, Les Chaumes, Macherelles and Chaumées, and their parcel in Puligny-Montrachet, Les Demoiselles. By the time Guy Amiot (who the current domaine is named after), took over in 1985, the domaine had built up very impressive holdings and had passed the knowledge of how to best care for the vines down from generation to generation. There was a continuity of work in the vineyards that led to solid consistency in the wines. In 1993, Guy’s son Thierry Amiot took over and has been both respecting the tradition and striving for improvement ever since.
