A DISCOVERY OF NATURAL WINES
This case allows you to explore the wines of two female winemakers, working with a "natural" approach: biodynamic practices, minimal intervention and minimal sulphites.

Puglian priestess of natural wines.
Valentina has been the leading exponent of biodynamics in Puglia since 2000, with her 80 hectare farm of vines, fruit and vegetables.
Her vineyards are rooted in Magna Grecia - as Ovid called this part of Southern Italy, settled by Hellenic people since the 8th Century. The grapes are descendants of this Grecian heritage - Greco, Nero di Troia (Black of Troy), Falanghina, Negroamaro. Imagine how wine might have been made in these classical times; that is Valentina's approach. There may not be foot treading but the wines are made only by spontaneous ambient fermentations. A pure, natural, almost miraculous process with no modern chemical or technological intervention required. An art form as old as culture itself!

1 x Hellen Bianco, Greco - Natural White
100% Greco. Lemon pith and green apple with a prominent saline minerality. To be drunk chilled, with an open mind, fantasising of the sea. Low alcohol at 11.5%.
1 x Calcarius Nu Ltr Rosso 2018 - 1 Ltr Bottle with Crown Cap -Natural Red, Negroamaro
Bright cherry fruit and a little bit of funk from 100% Negroamaro. Low in tannin creating a surprisingly drinkable juice, I mean, wine, designed to be drunk chilled. A definitive summer red wine. 11.5% abv.

Burgenland's Biodynamic Rebel
Austria is to Biodynamics what Italy is to Pizza*. Biodynamics is an agricultural philosophy that sees the vineyard as a dynamic and complete ecosystem. It seeks to harness the energy cycle of the vineyard to bring soils back to life, (after years of chemical bombardment), promote biodiversity and boost vine health & sustainability. For some, Biodynamics is a little too dogmatic and woo-woo. Ideas around cosmic energies, potions and astrological calendars detracts from the brilliant results of some of its more...let's say common sense approaches.
Judith Beck is one of the founding members of Respekt - a biodynamic winemaking association that seeks a 'contemporary synthesis' of Rudolf Steiner's ideas, with "modern agro-ecology" and practical experience of biodynamics gained in recent decades".
After a stints at smart Bordeaux chateau Cos D'Estournel and Chilean icon Errazuriz she returned to her family's 15ha of vines in Burgenland, near Lake Neusiedl in 2007 where she immediately moved it towards biodynamic and natural winemaking. Beck and her peers have turned Burgenland into a hotbed of biodynamic viticulture, and being an up-and-coming area, wines from this area offer exceptional value for their character and quality.

Weissburgunder AKA Pinot Blanc. Lemons, honeysuckle and pears. A touch of hazelnutty richness and a generous dollop of creaminess, thanks to 6 months oak ageing on the lees, while retaining lots of freshness. 12.5% abv
1 x Judith Beck PINK, 2019 (Zweigelt and Blaufränkisch) - Natural Rosé
A pale rosé full of personality. Strawberry lemonade, peach and then something a little grassy, a little herbal, even a little nutty on the finish. Dry, refreshing and interesting, kind of like your best mate. 12.5% abv.
1 x Judith Beck INK 2018 (Zweigelt / St Laurent) - Natural Red
A blend of Zweigelt and St Laurent in keeping with Judith's love of showcasing Austria's native grape creds. Bright and lively, with excellent freshness providing a counterpoint to the mouthexplosion of dark, inky fruit. The wine equivalent of getting your fingers stained greedily picking juicy, tart, black and red berries off the bush. Ideal for enjoying chilled. 12.5% abv.
